But the main difference was, that the Heinkel was a tactical bomber for close air support of the ground troops. It was never designed as a strategical bomber for long-range missions against industrial targets. One of the earliest ideas for the H. was to give her dive-bomber capabilities.
@twinstu50 Further to my last, some of the 'ME-109's, (Buchons) were owned and flown by the then 'Colonels' in the Confederate Air Force, and as can be clearly observed, they were then, (and still are), impeccably skilled Airmen.

@Sokra01 A retired Royal Air Force Officer, Hamish Mchaddie, (I hope I have spelled his name correctly), participated in a 'Spanish Auction' for the 'HE-111's, (CASA-212),(not sure about the 'ME-109's-'Buchon'). The bids for various 'lots' were in sealed envelopes, no other bidders knew what their competition was willing to pay, only the sellers knew. It is rumoured that Hamish's successful bid on behalf of the movie company, was won by 'a whisker'.
For those of us who might have a sprinkling of aeroplane experience, pause and think.
At 7:40, a HE-111 dorsal gunner is shown 'shooting', and looking for attacking fighters, and IMMEDIATELY behind him, a Spitfire flashes by from screen right to left.
A REAL Spitfire, and a 'real' HE-111, crewed by REAL people.
I gaze in wonderment at the skill displayed, stunning, simply stunning
These are all REAL aeroplanes, therefore, the flying skill demonstrated in this film is
@the82spartans Yes, you are absolutely right, mate. But you must remember that the 6 or 8 50 cals weigh much much more than 2 hispano 20mm cannons. You seem like a decent intelligent bloke. If you want to read up on the very interesting subject then google 'ww2 fighter gun' and pick the first link 'ww2 fighter gun effectiveness'. It lays it out in semi-scientific way, and also onthat sight is a piece about the US WW2 20mm cannon program and 50 cal decision,.

@Xiolablu3 -- yes but 6 or even 8 .50 cal machine guns on a P 51 or a Jug.... you get the idea it is at least as effective as 2x 20mm cannon.
