This guy sure is puerile. Harris is the most mellow guy around, and all he said is it's somewhat pointless to label yourself as something you don't agree with. I don't call myself an Ahoroscopist.
Plus it has much less of an 'us vs. them' mentality and we can call people out on their stupid ideas without being represented in the media as some sort of fringe subculture.

@JstNEarthling I think you missed Sam Harris' point. In any other discourse do you define yourself by what you DO NOT believe? Do you define yourself as an anti stamp collector because you don't collect stamps?

Sam Harris' position on the terminology is understandable, so you're an fucking idiot.

Harris cannot prove the primacy of Logic with Logic. Christianity is the acceptance of the primacy of the Logos (Logic) over Ethos and Pathos. Harris cannot explain why we should value the logical over the fallacious. Or for that matter, argument over force. True Christians do not have this problem. They have personified the Logos through mythology. And many may not even recognize this personification for what it is. However, a Christian MUST, if Christian, accept the primacy of Logic.

And what the hell is NEO darwinism anyway.... sounds like a creationist misnomer.. "Neo-Darwinism is a term used to describe the 'modern synthesis' of Darwinian evolution" Sourced in Wikipedia and a term known by pretty much anyone who has ever researched the subject. The Neo Darwinian synthesis was established in the 1930 and 40's. This the theory that has been taught for the last 70 years. Neo meaning new, as apposed to classical Darwinism.
What has that to do with catechism?
What are you asking me for? I thought that you were supposed to be the expert who knows more about religion than any theist and who speaks for all atheist as in...... "because one is an atheist we know more about religion than pretty much any theist"
Origins, ancestry, creation and neo Darwinism are not banned from discussion in catechism.
Maybe your knowledge is really only limited to your own personel experience in catechism in the 50's and 60's.

@benthemiester It is apparently, I said so. I went to school in the 50s-60s and what that has to do with catechism is catechism is the studty of the catholic bible....not science.....when I went to school... And what the hell is NEO darwinism anyway.... sounds like a creationist misnomer..

When I went to catechism they got upset because I questioned neo Darwinism. They couldn't seem to answer the questions that I asked. Now that I'm older I have come to realize that not only neo Darwinism but even abiogenesis, just like pangenesis was, is a fairy tale for adults which includes many atheist.

@benthemiester They taught you "neo-Darwinism" in catechism??? You do understand that just because one is an atheist,,,,really because one is an atheist we know more about religion than pretty much any theist, but because you are you are not precluded from religious instruction. So do yourself a favor and look over this post again... are you sure it was catechism??? Anyone else see this silly post above?

@JstNEarthling Yes I am sure it was catechism.
"really because one is an atheist we know more about religion than pretty much any theist"
So by that logic if I want to learn about cosmology I should see a geologist.
You say that you know so much about theism yet you didn't even know that By 1950, Pope Pius XII agreed to the academic freedom to study the scientific implications of evolution.
I finally get to speak to the person who speaks for all atheist & so far not very impressive.

@benthemiester What has that to do with catechism, which is the study of the catholic bible, not science. I went to catholic school in the 50-60s and there would never be Darwin in catechism regardless what the pope may have said.
