A Motion & Sound Video Portrait. Tippi Hedren, known to all as the legendary Hitchcock heroine who suffered the slings and arrows or, more accurately, the beaks and claws of a bedroom full of angry birds in the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock classic, The Birds is not as well known as a Humanitarian and Animal Rights activist. Her work and protection of Big Cats on her ranch, Shambala Preserve http://www.shambala.org in Acton California, is also legendary. It houses anywhere from 60 to 70 Lions, Tigers, Panthers, Leopards, Mountain Lions, Servals and more, many originally purchased by people as pets, which, naturally, became uncontrollable and dangerous when they reached maturity. Ms. Hedren is valiantly attempting to enact legislature to prevent the purchase of Big Cats as household pets and to ban the unthinkable and reprehensible act of Canned Hunting. That, if you dont know, is the release of animals, sometimes tamed so they do not fear humans, in a confined area from which they cannot escape, so people can shoot them for sport. Some fun, eh? What sicko thought that one up?

More information on Tippi Hedren, Shambala and her other Humanitarian works can be found on Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tippi_Hedren and on IMDB, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001335

  • Does anyone know what music that is ?

  • Hi! Yes, the music is 'Arabesques, No. 1 in E Major' by Claude DeBussy. It is a poriton of the full tune. It is "The Birds" related in that it was the song that Melanie, played by Tippi Hedren, was playing on the piano just after dinner when Mitch and Lydia were in the kitchen cleaning up. Kathy was also telling Melanie about a case Mitch had worked on as well.

  • I'm starting a petition to stop Universal Pictures from remaking Hitchcock's The Birds. Go to my profile and u can read all the information u need about how to sign the petition. I, for one, think it's an insult to even try to remake such a classic.

  • When you watch this movie you begin to realize that the filmmakers treat the birds like an incoming storm. Scenes like when Mitch is boarding up the windows reveal this. That makes it more frightening.....we can't control the weather or birds. We are never told why the birds attack, again making them more unpredictable and more scary. This is my favorite Hitchcock movie. I've watched it at least 20 times.
