I used to attach bigger bricks on to the smaller ones and used the bigger ones as a lever. Bite marks on the legos are NOT very pretty...

I use a Swiss knife and it works a lot easier and I use it at my own risk so don't chop your fingers listening to me. If your on the younger side, I recommend these because it's safer and easier...
