  • Well said Falstaff, although I do believe that a writer, be that a poet or other, needs a trigger so, it is possible, that without experiencing the horrors of war Wifred Owen may never have been able to write such incredible poetry.

  • SUBJECT MATTER ASIDE, the FORM of this poem, the perfectness of it, of its sound, its metrical fluency--THIS IS AMONG THE GREATEST POEMS OUR LANGUAGE HAS PRODUCED. Now back to the (incidental) subject matter: what a f---ing CESS war is, to take the life of A POET LIKE THIS. This man was Shakespeare, killed at--what?--26 or 27? Had he lived to write about more than war, GOOD LORD WHAT A POET WE MIGHT HAVE HAD!
