HO scale Amtrak Acela trainset running off of Live scratchbuilt PRR catenary using a LOKsound decoder set up for a TGV Thalys. Layout has three levels of trackage and two large stations all under LIVE DCC catenary. Based on PRR electric lines in Philadelphia PA. The bare copper Inclined catenary section was just put in replacing catenary that was installed on the layout when I was 16 years old. This layout has been in the making for 22 years

  • @Wehategod .. The subway is still in the planning stages. Im still trying to figure out how to get out of the ground onto and El section with a workable grade.

  • That's Impressive!! Being from SE PA I'm really interested in the layout. I have a set of 4 SEPTA Horizon fleet cars custom painted/detailed that I made with an AEM-7 that would look right at home on your layout.

  • This has got to be one of the finest layouts that I have ever set eyes on. The detail is absolutely MAGNIFICENT! Superb modelling effort! WOW!

  • I actually use the coated strand wire which comes with atlas switch machines or even smaller wire that comes with lights its flimsy enough to bend during curves that solid stuff isnt going to work. Wire from earphones also works and is better because it has more than one wire in the cord.

  • @ac0catenary How do you put in a bus wire in the cars? I tried that once but all the cars kept leaning over and falling off the tracks b/c the wire wasn't bendy enough. Thanks for all of your replies!

  • Wow what a nice layout. Great job.

  • yes. I use 18/20 gauge copper wire which is the best conductor for wire other than gold and its doesnt oxidize like steel or bronze. copper has its trade offs though. Its soft ,so it tends to sag. I started out using 24 gauge which was too flimsy and sagged to much. Bronze and steel wire are stronger and dont sag but you have to clean the wire and because its harder than copper you will have pantograph wear on the slidder and pantographs are very expensive. With copper there is not any wear.
