Have managed to cobble together all different stuff so I can speak into my wireless headset to switch things on/off!!!!

Hardware:
=========
Dragon Dictate preferred wireless headset
3.06Ghz 1Gb Ram PC (Florence)
800MHz 512Mb Ram PC (JillDando)
X10 AW12 mains appliance module A2 (alias tvmain) for LCD42"TV
X10 LM15EB (Bayonet Lamp Module) A9 (alias Kitchen)
X10 LM15EB (Bayonet Lamp Module) A10 (alias Bedroom)
X10 CM11USB (Computer Interface (UK) - USB Version)
An Ethernet network
Mains Appliances (42" TV and kitchen/Bedroom Lights) :-)

Software:
=========
XPpro windows on 3.06Ghz 1Gb Ram box (Florence) 10.0.1.3
Dragon Dictate preferred (Speech recognition)
My Own UDP client C code named ARNIE Chat (arniechat.exe)
Shortcuts on Windows Desktop

Linux Debian on 800MHz 512Mb Ram box (JillDando) 10.0.1.252
heyu X10 software on Linux
My Own UDP server PERL script named ARNIE (arnie.pl)

So it goes like this.....

I say "Start Arnie Kitchen Light On"

'Start'
(built in dragon dictate function which tells it that the next words to
be recognised could be to do with desktop OR Start menu shortcuts)

'Arnie Kitchen Light On'
(name of the desktop shortcut)

The shortcut has the following command:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\arniechat.exe" 10.0.1.252 heyu on kitchen (This code sends 'heyu on kitchen' to (JillDando) 10.0.1.252

PERL UDP server script 'arnie.pl' accepts the heyu command 'on kitchen' and passes it onto the 'heyu' software.

'heyu' software looks up kitchen and translates this into X10 appliance code A9 (A = house code 9 is the appliance number). This code is then sent down the USB to the X10 CM11USB interface which then transmitts the 'A9 ON' code down the mains wiring.

X10 LM15EB coded as A9 receives the instruction via the mains wiring and switches ON

The wireless headset has the same range and uses the same freq. as your wireless DECT telephones. Hence can say this any where in flat.

  • I am lucky with the Sharp LCD 32", but many do do this, SHarp range do.

When you disconnect a TV from the mains (ie simulate pulling the plug out or switch it off at mains) when power comes back on some TV's go back into previous state, so mine remembers it was on and what EXT it was on.

So switch TV off at plug while its is on, then turn it back on, if it remembers then your sorted.

  • Don't you think that the title should be about speech recognition instead of voice recognition...I just got overwhelmed by the title

  • Cool!

  • Nice work! Have a look at my attempts...

  • When the appliance module turns on the tv how come the tv comes on? tv's always go into standby mode when the mains are switched on, how did you make yours switch on?

    thanks.

  • kwl awsome nice

  • Not yet, interesting one though. Am getting a new kitchen and part of that is an extractor hood which I will not be able to read the on button, so have been thinking of having the on/off button on constantly and use the X10 appliance module to switch it on/off.
