No no no. Rise of the Ogre, the official Gorillaz biography, said that Murdoc ran his car into 2D's head and that pushed one of his eyes in. The other eye was pushed inward when Muds tried to impress some chicks by making some 360-degree donut tricks in his car. 2D, being comatose at the time, was flung out the windshield by accident. He skidded on his face a good distance, and when he got up, he looked as he does today!
