Long Island native Joseph Dwyer, who became a well-known face of the Iraq war after being shown carrying an Iraqi boy to safety in an Army Times photo by Warren Zinn, has died here at home after succumbing to the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder.

  • Poor guy....he was a true but naive hero who was fooled into believing the republican propaganda about improving the lives of Iraqis...he never figured out until it was too late that his real 'mission' was to murder 'ragheads' and steal Iraqi oil.

    No doubt his sudden realization of the truth was too much for him to bear. Little wonder. This is not an age for the truly heroic.

    RIP Mr. Dwyer.

  • I was lucky enough to have know Joseph when he was stationed at Fort Bliss. He was a wonderful person and a positive person to be around. Rest in peace.
