IGOR AND IVAN BUHAROV
"Decorative use of pain"
TRANZITWORKSHOPS, BRATISLAVA
OPENING, OCTOBER 1, 6 P.M. 2011
MUSIC: The Pastorz
ON VIEW UNTIL:

The world created by the Buharovs moves on the frontier of dream and reality, and is influenced by Buddhism and eastern philosophical thoughts. Their films capture archetypical experiences in surrealistic atmosphere. The protagonists are mostly friends and non-actors, who live outside of mainstream and elite culture, and often speak out poetic or philosophical dialogues given to them. The vision of freedom and its impossibility, the slow steps of the individual towards self-liberation are topics touched with melancholy and irony.

In the exhibition "Decorative use of Pain" at the tranzitworkshops in Bratislava, the film production of the Buharovs is put in focus. They are going to present a film installation, three long films, documentaries, and their newest piece "Rudderless", completed for Manifesta 8. A selection of their poetic and uncanny short films will appear as part of installations: accumulations of paintings, drawings and objects. The position of strange items arranged in the spaces moves between props of the films and anthropological objects transferred from reality.

The exhibition also includes works commenting on the current socio-political situation in Hungary, among them the Smellection Automat, which is an ironic commentary on people's relation to politics.

Dóra Hegyi is a curator, director of tranzit.hu, based in Budapest, HU. Amongst many she has co/curated and Periferic 8 in Iasi, RO and Manifesta 8 at Murcia and cartagena, ES.
