Taking their rather sucessfull CPS1 arcade game Area 88 and reinventing it in the Super Nintendo hardware, Capcom made more then a mere port, just like in Ghoul'n' Ghosts. Regretfully loosing the simultaneous 2 player mode, this SNES offering offers a much more deep single player experience, with more planes, levels and giving the players the choice of which mission to tackle. Renamed U.N. Squadron outside of Japan, It's amusing to see that the characters and names of the anime protagonists were left unchanged. Area 88 is my favorite fighter aircraft anime and although I had played previously to having my SNES on the Amiga version, this is the definitive version of the game for me. Level 1 with Shin Kazama on a F8E Crusader.

  • I never owned an SNES in my life but a cousin of mine did. Nintendo, why in hell don't you port this into the Wii Virtual Console.

  • @ChaosZero Sadly because the game is from CAPCOM and it's a licensed one. I doubt Capcom still has the rights to distribute a Area 88 game, which is this games original name, a popular series of manga/anime in Japan.

  • Why the hell does it say "Extinct" when recovering?

  • @akfg4life It's refering to the onboard fire. =)

  • @ShiryuGL Hm..shouldn't it say Extinguished or something then? Must be bad translation.

  • @akfg4life Maybe out of letter space... =P

  • can anybody tell me why My plane stops shooting when I keep holding it

  • @ShiryuGL I just told her/him that extinct is a synonym for extinguished. You're right though, they used it because of letter space. Learn something new everyday.

  • @akfg4life Extinct means Extinguished. I had to look it up myself as well.

  • this game was my childhood. has to be one of the best games for super nintendo

  • @xXEdXx17 thats what i thought too

  • Does anyone else notice the character select/stage select music sounds suspiciously like "Chocolate Rain"? Go ahead and look it up. I'll wait...
