I confess, I still have a soft spot for the DOS version:

Amiga and TG are outstanding.

@GameShowFan6 game gear version =P
-
First version's the best. Amiga sure knew how to make a soundtrack

Thank you, Corey out.
-
you forgot the game boy version.
-
perhaps the greatest ever music melody ever created, so many diffrent loops, sounds, and style... and are all totaly diffrent from each other but make up the best music ever.
-
SNES is still the champ.

@mstop4 The two popular cards at the time (barring the expensive Gravis systems) were the Sound Blaster 16 AWE and the AdLib card. Both of which sound incredibly different than the systems of today.

The Mega Drive version is the best! Can't beat that steady disco beat with that incredible FM-YM2612 twanga bass guitar.
huh, the Windows version that I remember sounded WAY different. It had a very primitive kind of sound. Any insight as to why that is?

It's most likely due to different MIDI sound sets being used. If you played it a long time ago, then your sound cards probably used FM synthesis to play back MIDI files which made them sound primitive and like Genesis music (which used the same sound technology among other things).
