My attempt to help prepare for the upcoming holidays. One of the more important items for long terms success is knowing how you are going to react to stressful situations, and the holidays for most people certainly classifies as such. There is still a lot of time between now and then to put into place actions to avoid much of the stress. You can be the person who is the talk of the holidays due to your success or perhaps the person who they have inward sympathy. I was happy that I could wear my new lifestyle on my sleeve, but I offer suggestions how to make a non-issue of it as well for those not quite willing to do it yet. Here are a couple:
* be the cook or bring more than enough legal food to the Pot-Providence (aka "Potluck") dinner
* be more into the socializing rather than the eating
* keep yourself busy during the family functions

I hope this helps make the holidays easier for all of you.

  • I married into a family of force-feed Nazis. If you don't take piece of everything, then they interrogate you, i.e. "You don't want any of my pie?!!" I used to jump up and handle the dishes, but then I was in the doghouse for not waiting for everyone to finish before leaving the table. The final straw occurred when my wife's grandmother just started putting food on my plate without asking. I had to actually cover the plate up and start yelling, "NO!NO!NO!" This is my hell every Sunday.....

  • In that case, I would have to have words with my relatives. Honest words, like "I can't eat your way, and this is important to me so please stop with the requests I eat something I can't. The more your persist, the more upset I will get, and eventually I will have to have this conversation every time I come over. Do you want that? I don't." My grandma (a great Dutch grandma) was the same way. It took my success to keep her quiet once and for all.

  • Hi!!!

I'm 20 years old and I started my Atkins diet two weeks ago... I've lost 8 pounds already... I was morbidly obese when I was 15... School mates made fun of me, but thanks to low carb diets I've lost 66 pounds until now... I'm really proud of you and you're like an example to me... Thanks for sharing your experience... Have a wonderful day... =)

  • Congrats on your success! You are an example of what can be done to get back your life and open up all sorts new activities. Good job!!

  • Yes

  • Yeah, I had that conversation before, but the only thing that really sinks in is personal embarassment. On a different note, as a former soldier, I tip my hat to you for your success and for putting this out to motivate others.

  • My thoughts exactly

  • I consider myself somewhat of a Low Carb expert, and I still learn from each of your videos! For instance, I never thought about helping out with the dishes or playing games to occupy myself during the holiday parties. Thanks! Keep up the great work because you are certainly appreciated!
