What you should have done was pour each charge onto the tray so you eliminate the different variations of the weight of all the the different brass.

lee scale are very accurate i put a 55 grain 224 bullet in it it came out 55 grains and i put a 1/10 grain of paper in it and it made the scale move half inch

i ffound that tapping on the hopper makes less consistant charges. i just do a nice smooth stroke from bottom to top wait a second, and then lower it. this is for larger 30-06 charges and it is very consistant.
if you disagree, tell me the consistant amount of force you have done on the tapping. it varies, so dont do it. Gravity is the only consistant force that you have on the powder measure, along with the hydrostatic head pressure on how full the hopper is.

One thing about the Lee scale. Its very, very touchy. It balances on a razor blade. So if you have a furnace blowing nearby, or you breathe on it, its going to move. This is what makes the Lee EXTREMELY accurate. My RCBS scale balances on a round pin. It is not very touchy and I think thats why its not as accurate. It costs way more, and I keep it around for now, but the Lee is the really precise one. (critical in handgun for tenth of grain) RCBS scale is fine for rifle.

Lucky most reloaders are of the nature of tinkering and tool skills in general. For those that are not i suggest you loosen the screw that holds the charge bar in very small incramints.Half a turn was perfect for mine and not so much as to make it so loose that it spills lots of powder. This lee powder measure that i am speaking of is not bad in an emergency but i cant wait to get a new one.I cant get it to put out charges that are more than +or - .3 of a grain so i only put the charges at min.

Thanks for this video! I just did some reloading with my father-in-law last week, my first time. I was hoping there was a more mechanical way to measure powder other than "by hand" for each round, but he had said he'd read about trouble with the Unique powder he uses (that I will use at least until someone tells me why I shouldn't).
Your video answered my questions nicely, even with the specific powder I am interested in. Thanks!

do not use hodgdon clays wth this measure it will not measure flake powder consistantly

I got this same powder measurer with my lee single stage press, and I have nothing but bad things to say about it..My buddies RCBS powder measurer is way more consistant and holds up better under fine powder than this one does...Honestly,I'm a true believer in you get what you pay for...But if your in a pinch and don't mind the problems this one may give you,go ahead and buy it...I prefer to just measure each and every round so I know it's exact...I don't trust this measurer to load anymore...

i use the lee powder measure for competition shooting for my ar 15. they work very well out of the box and will throw charges withing a tenth of a grain every time. for the price they are really good. i wouldnt bother buying an expensive one. my only problem is that it is less accurate after a lot of use from wear in the parts
I was looking at buying this powder measure. I think I will.

@davidsquall351 I really do like mine. I also use a RCBS Uniflo too. The lee, I do have some friends that have had thiers leak powder around the arm that you much up and down. Mine has still yet to leak. I don't think its a big problem if you put something like a paper plate under to catch the powder and put back in the hopper. One friend says it wasn't that much of a noticable amount, he lives with it as it is conistant...

aside from the safety reason,is it really critical that the same charge wt be placed in a pistol case?im a rifle precision shooter and i carefully measure each charge to consistently hit where i aim(with the proper dope on the scope).is it as critical with pistols?i have no pistols so i have no idea...can you enlighten?...
triggersafe 1 year ago
@triggersafe It isnt as critical. I just wanted to show all the people that told me that this powder measure was not accurate at all. Now beside all of that. wether I am loading rifle or pistol I still try to strive for the best accuracy I can. To me, that is the importance of handloading...

howcome you're using an rcbs scale? didn't you get a lee scale with the breechlock kit? do you not like it for some reason?
davery25 1 year ago
@davery25 My kit did come with the lee scale. I found it was a bit hard for me to read. Once I got my rcbs scale and compared the 2, the RCBS was just more accurate and made me feel comfortable. With me, if I am not comfortable with something, then I will choose a different route. On the same note, I know of a couple other people that uses the lee scale and they live by them.
