  • When I heard Grete was dead, I cried. RIP Grete :-(

  • RIP Grete waitz.

  • RIP Grete Waitz, the greatest Norwegian athlete ever. :(

  • We watched the evening sports when this happened. It was unreal as Marianne was from our little home town of St Joseph, IL. We'd given her a ride back to college one snowy January.

Looking back now, this seems even more impressive than I realized then. The 1st women's Olympic marathon was 1984. Her 2:31 was in the top 10 ever by a US woman in a major race.

She won a big 10 mile race 3 times in a row after that.

Money wasn't as good back then for runners so I expect she got a good job.

  • Whatever happened to Marianne Dickerson??

  • As thousands cheered, Marianne Dickerson moved ahead of her Soviet rival to grab the silver medal. Then she disappeared from the world scene.
