It was originally intended to be the other episodes in a 6 part series and if you pay attention, there are MANY (albeit obscure) connections with Episode 1 and Xenogears. However, somewhere along the line I think they gave up and decided that joining the two was either too difficult plotwise, or legal-wise, seeing as how Xenogears is still officially square-enix and Xenosaga is Namco.
BTW, I think this trailer already spoiled WAAAY too much. Now I already know that Albedo is back :(

Well they decided that thery'd scrap the PAL version, which disappointed me greatly, since i have Ep. II. Perhaps a series for PS3 will come out.

Namco bought all the rights to the Xenogears franchise, therefor there won't be anymore Xenogears or Xenosaga related games unless Namco decides to make another one. Personally I think Namco butchered the Xenogears franchise completly and I'm glad they're making the third and last chapter.

Actually there are some similarities in the history line. It could be in the same universe and it could be the same storyline, we cant predict the future right? The only thing that stands in between is SquareEnix owns the right for Xenogear. So they could just remake Xenogear, label with different name and depending on the limit of the right, alter the story, name, etc. And Namco's version of Xenogear! :D Bottomline, that little kid could be Namco's Fei (Fein? :P )

Again people! xenosaga is not xenogears!! its 2 different stories!! xenosaga have only 3 episodes because its from namco!! xenogears is squareenix!! same elements, different universe!!!
