Miss Scotland joined Scottish Sports Futures as a brand ambassador for our charity, in particular working with our Jump2it and Twilight Basketball Programs. She joined us on the 25th October to be introduced to some of the teenagers from Twilight Basketball. She then shots some hoops with them then after talking to them about her ambitions and achievements she spent some time with the Glasgow Rocks Players before tossing the ball for tip off.
Jump2it, is a Scotland-wide initiative by the Scottish Sports Futures charity and basketball team the Scottish Rocks, the players go into schools talk about smoking, nutrition and physical fitness to the children, while providing an introduction to basketball. Participating schools also take part in a basketball tournament, with the final played on the Rocks court at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow. These programs run for six weeks and we currently work with 130 schools with the aim over the next year to increase to 175.
Our Twilight program works with disadvantaged children with areas of social depravation. Children from the age of 11-21 work with our team of youth workers and sports coaches on Friday evenings, the sessions are free to all who participate..The aims of both programs are;
Encourage 11-21 year olds to avoid, alcohol, drugs and crime
Increase self esteem, team work and social skills
Increase knowledge and awareness of how diet and fitness can change lives.
