Along with the anonymous "Allahpundit," Ed Morrissey is the key to the success of Hot Air, one of the biggest commentary and video sites on the glorious system of tubes we call the Internet. Day in and day out, Morrissey, who also hosts a web radio show and has recently started writing for The Week, weighs in on politics and culture from a center-right POV that is, he says, is getting more and libertarian out of deference to reality.

An L.A. ex-pat who landed in Minneapolis, Morrissey's rise to blog stardom exemplifies how new media has leveled the playing field and given everyone a shot at an audience. Earlier in the decade, Morrissey was working as the manager of a call center when he started the blog Captain's Quarters. The success of that site—he was even named The Week's "Blogger of the Year" a few years back—led to a contract with the experimental Blog Talk Radio and, in 2008, the Hot Air gig. Morrissey still dials in from the Midwest, a location he says gives him a different perspective than many commentators in the BosWash corridor.

Morrissey recently talked to Reason's Nick Gillespie while visiting Washington, D.C.

Approximately 8 minutes. Filmed by Jim Epstein and Joshua Swain. Edited by Swain.

  • @schmij8

Yes! Isn't it strange how his hair hasn't really changed, but with the addition of that 'stache and those sideburns he becomes the police captain from some '70s cop show?

  • Here's a new interview with Nick (remove all the spaces):

    peekURL . com / vF3phak

At least, I think that's him. I might be wrong.

  • @XCritonX: are you a joke?

Reason supports, among other things, literally open borders. As in, anyone can come here at any time for any reason. Not even Badnarik was that insane.

What they propose would be against the wishes of 99% of Americans and would lead to foreign countries gaining political power inside the U.S. and the U.S. gov't eventually being replaced with control by those countries.

What Reason supports is a form of totalitarianism and would lead to a totalitarian government.

  • I hope we can pressure him into getting into that moustache.... lol

  • I can't stop staring. It's just so...mustastic.

  • Woh, the mustache? Really?

  • @NoMoreBlatherDotCom I like watching Reason and I am not a libertarian, however it appears to be a scam to make us all more prosperous, and help us achieve greater personal freedom and responsibility. I guess if you hate freedom and personal responsibility you probably don't like Reason and the Koch brothers. In that case just stick with the current totalitarianism.

(BTW: what is your alternative idea to libertarianism?)

  • @megagagnon1 Riots like this cant happen in America. Crowds of unarmed people with hotdog buns strapped to their heads? In the US the thugs would all be shot dead in the first 48 hours. Today American citizens are better armed, and have more training than at any time in US history. Sales of ammo and of AR and AK platform rifles to ordinary law abiding citizens are through the roof.

  • @XCritonX You want to know what happens if they get serious about eliminating depts? Say, the Dept of Ed and Energy? Look at Egypt - govt thugs taking to the streets, using violence to express their opposition. That's what the government workers, especially the SEIU, would be doing. And sniper rifle sales would go through the roof.

  • Wow. Not even Koch sockpuppets want to comment on Nick "Leatherman" Gillespie interviewing Ed Morrissey.

As for sirellyn, he/she must not have research skills. Because, problems with the Kochs - both the brothers and their father - have been known for *decades*. For instance, here's an article from 1993 about them using front people to push NAFTA:

    lewrockwell . com/rothbard/ir/Ch21.html

How'd NAFTA - and the mass immig. that Reason promotes - work out for everyone who isn't a billionaire?
