One thing is clear from Joel Osteen's [full] interview: He revealed more about what he doesn't know than about what he claims to know, seemingly, side stepping biblical truth. As such, Joel Osteen joins a growing company of celebrity evangelicals who have appeared on Larry King Live and have failed to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you . . . (1 Peter 3:15). As evidenced by the full interview and available transcript, Osteen seems a great deal less certain about the Gospel than the following New Testament saints:

Paul declared, I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded . . . (2 Timothy 1:12); he prayed, that ye may know what is the hope of [Christs] calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints (Ephesians 1:18); and wrote, Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God (Romans 3:19); That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings . . . (Philippians 3:10); Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man (Colossians 4:6); John declared, These things have I written unto you . . . that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life (1 John 5:13,19,20).

And of course, the Old Testament also repeatedly states, that ye may know. . . . God certainly has conveyed the impression that He wants us to be certain!

Yet, for Joel Osteen, over and over again, it's uncertainty ... "I don't know."

Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

  • @jaywbe Joel is right in saying that he can't judge anybody, but here he is with a golden opportunity to preach the gospel and he just says "I'm not a judge". Preaching the gospel is not judging anyone, it is simply presenting the truth. So what if people get offended? Blessed you are when you are hated for his names sake.

  • Joel is right. Jesus said "judge not lest ye be judged." He said "I come not to condemn the world, but to save it." If Jesus was against condemnation, how can we, as believers, be for it. God is Love, not some big mean tyrant like religion would have it seem. But only God has the power to judge and to forgive. We're all sinners, so for me to express condemnation to another person would make me a hypocrite. How can I be the light of the world if all I preach is darkness and damnation?

  • Does Joel ever quote ANY scripture?! He talks a LOT about God, but hardly if ever uses the scriptures to substantiate his answers. It's clearly written in the word that the Jews would deny the Messiah:

(Isaiah 53:3) "He[the Messiah] was despised, and we held him as of no account."

Osteen doesn't have the backbone, or the faith, to quote that scripture to a Jew, Larry King.

Yet, MILLIONS tune in to this guy and follow his every word, when they guy doesn't know the scriptures.

  • I don't know..., I don't know. , I don't know. I don't know.

  • @DMeloMan Gospel is not truth. Its opinion. The bible says "if you rape a virgin, the man must marry her". (look it up!!) yeah.....the bible is a political tool. im not giving 10% of my money to the church either. Im spiritual, but not relgiious.

  • JOEL, YOU HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO TELL THE PEOPLE THE TRUTH, EVEN IF IT HURTS THEM! Quit sugar-coating everything and tell them what God says, even if they get uncomfortable. The Bible says, "as many as I love, I rebuke and chasten". The Message of the Cross is naturally offensive to sinful man, but you have to love the people enough to step on their toes and make sure they get to Heaven. If you don't tell the people the truth, you don't love them.

  • Joel Osteen is a FRAUD!!! As a pastor he is held accountable to speak God's word!! If he can't do that and share God's truth he needs to STOP claiming to be a pastor!!!

  • You people are funny to me.. ..trying to pick apart everything! Joel was right! He presents what he had learned but all you haters wanted to hear him say you are going to hell for not believing in christ! Now he's a false prophet? Smh...... Lord says to preach the word and shake the dust off your feet if people don't listen.

  • strange

  • Judge a person's heart? It's already been judged by God. He said that It's deceitful and desperately wicked. Why couldn't this man truly represent Chist? He had a great opportunity to do so! Could it be...money? Just because someone has riches and appears to be blessed does not mean it came from God. There are many, many rich evil minded people.
