Have you ever returned a library book and wondered what happens next? At the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library (Topeka, KS) the Book Depository leads down a conveyor belt to the basement where the Techlogic AMH machine sorts materials after checking them in. Affectionately called "the machine", this is a cool example of a library technology that still focuses on books.

I have been in the book/library servicing industry for years, and this is the biggest waste of money and space I have ever seen. I sure hope it was all donated by the automation industry.
