Less idiots back then. people depend on safety devices to be put in the place of common sense. People worked safer back then, and there werent BS lawsuits either.

my grandfather has one of these and runs it with a old massey tractor, used to scare me to death when i was little, when these babys have a kick back it is no joke

Ican remember when almost every farm had a buzz saw around somewhere, now it's hard to just find an old blade hanging. chain saw made people lazy, most can't even trim a tree with an axe.

So is the belt tensioned by just lowering the saw?

@SLORRIFJART321 There is a threaded rod that sets the distance between the pulleys, but in normal use, yes, just lowering it into position tensions it.
