I've been wanting to start painting in water colour, what type of sketch book or paper should I use?

it should be really thick/heavy (not sure how you say it in English), water colour paper usually has about 200g/m² (mine had 220). For beginners it's easier to take one without pattern (at least that's my experience) =)

It's something to mask the areas you don't want to get coloured... in German it's called "Masking fluid" (this is a translation, of course xD), I heard an English expression as "Liquid frisket" =)
