This was the opening song of their set. I've never been that bothered that honestly I don't really know what the lyrics are what the song is about - I just love the emotional tone, the rhythm of the refrain and the way that guitar line just electrifies my skin and sets the hairs on end.

Notes:
After I got back from the gig, I got caught up and learned that: Tim Booth the lead singer was carrying a heavy load coming into this concert. He was exhausted from the thousands of miles they'd driven, he'd just learned his mum might be on the way to dying back home in England, and he was carrying the memory of how his dad died while overseas on a previous tour.

I went there tired from work and not sure whether to just naff off home instead. They'd been great live way back in the nineties when I'd last seen them, and I was worried that this might be a bunch of older guys sort of phoning-it-in (I hadn't gotten around to following their tour blog or any of the clips people have posted from earlier dates on this tour), but instead it turned out to be one of the most insanely happy, energetic, emotional gigs I've ever attended.

I was torn because I didn't want to separate myself from the experience of the event by filming stuff, but I also wanted to get it recorded so others maybe could get a sense of what this band can do live, so in the end I filmed four songs, and then as you can probably tell found out that this camera is a bit sensitive to deep bass kick and so the sound is not as top notch as it could be. However, hopefully it does convey something of the range of the band (across the four songs I've posted) for those who don't know them, and acts as a good memory trigger for those who happened to make it to the gig.

I owe it to Tim for showing me how to just let yourself go into music and dance like a maniac if that's what you feel like doing. :) If I'd stop to think they'd hang out after the show (like they did) I'd have given the man a huge hug, of thanks and of deep gratitude that him and the band could just keep on giving with a show like that, with all that was swirling around them before they stepped on stage.
