  • We think that the Evinrude 130 hp is a superior performing engine based on everything we know about the two engines. We have not tested these two engines on similar boats so have no head-to-head comparison data.

  • Mr Boat Test,

Ive got an old Force 150 on the back of a boat hull I'd like to keep. Since its older I'm worried about weight though the mech I had take a look says the transom is solid. If I went with a etec 130 would that provide more or less the same output as the older force I have.

  • Thank you for your replay. And If you have to compare Mercury Verado compare Evinrude E-Tec which one you would choose ?

  • Love the E-tec! quiet when idling...but once you get on the gas it gives a mean growl and sets you back in your seat!

  • BRP split the product lines. Jhonson now is anytithing 25HP and less. Evinrude - everything over 25 HP. And yes, during the OMC times, Evinrude and Jhonson used to be mechanically identical. But not anymore. I used to have 90HP Jhonson and all the parts I used to buy for service where labled Jhonson/Evinrude. Difference was purely cosmetic. Not anymore. Now I have Etec 150 and very happy with it.

  • @cvcgac johnson evinrude are the same both oringinaly made by omc and now brp

  • @IRONSEAN7 brp(bombardier) bought omc out and now they mainly make evinrude but still have johnson parts

  • @cvcgac just in the last few years did johnson and evinrude go separate ways, for many many years, the two were almost identical in every way, most times just a paintjob and sticker pack separate the two. at one time, i had two 1980s V4 Engines, one was a johnson 90, and the other was an evinrude 88hp. both needed a fair amount of work. i was able to make one REAL nice John-rude out of the two. i ended up with a nice Johnson white motor, with a bunch of Rude parts including the blue 88 cover
