The Reverse Hyper
Im about to keep it real and I will probably be kicked out of the fitness industry for this one.

Most times when people start a muscle building / strength training routine, they incorporate a machine targets the glutes, hamstrings, stabilizers the lower back and engages the spinal erectors called the reverse hyper.

The reverse hyper is a device that Louie Simmons inverted several years ago and after I read a recent newsletter from Mike Robertson about the reverse hyper, I decided to show how we actually use it.

I was fortunate enough to pick up a reverse hyper recently and we have been using it ever since.

I believe it is a good piece of equipment that can provide many important benefits if used correctly.

  • On the rev hyper, on the way down, why is there a pause, which is then followed by going all the way down (i.e. seems like 2 separate movements)? What is the purpose of that? Great video btw .. very informative .. *****

  • The goal is to increase time under tension and optimize the hamstring and glute contraction with a powerful squeeze. In the video, you'll see my feet lower slightly at the top squeeze, I would rather see the weight not move at lockout. Check out Eli (the guy in the red) do it correctly.

  • Smitty- if you don't have a partner for manual resistance, what do you think about using a band?

  • Definitely bro. You can use manual resistance, a band or even a db held between your feet.

  • smittys putting on some muscle!

  • haha, just trying to fight father time :)

  • Squeek....squeek...sque..squeaaak. :)

  • Hi there, I just watched a demo from louie simmons who created this machine...in the demo Laura Phelps does hyper flexion with a swing and allows the hips to tuck under and also using momentum to bring the weight up... Is the creator wrong? He talks about the effectiveness of the ROM (hence allowing the swing)

  • Reverse Hypers are worth their weight in gold. All give gratitude to the inventor, Louie Simmons of Westside Barbell, Columbus.

  • Good infromative vid unlike those shitty 20 second vids with fucked up form and way too much weight

  • How do you use this and not get a wicked headache?
