A republic that was truly acting in its citizen's best interest would educate that citizen to the highest standard, it would provide a firearm and firearm training to every single citizen, a tradition that would become a family right, handed down from one generation to the next. I wonder if in the 7 months since you posted this badly misguided comment, if you have studied the history of government oppression? They amass power at the public's expense, taking, taking, taking, and never once giving back a single freedom that they have excised. They don't know any other way. The citizen should always be in the "master" position to his or her govt., but unfortunately that requires involvement, which apparently is too much ask for a dumbed-down society addicted to the telly.

Its called "problem reaction solution" They create a problem (9/11, 7/7 etc) wait for a reation (fear) and invent a solution (ID cards, cctv etc) the solutions are always at the expense of freedom in exchange of perceived "security". It makes me sick that people are stupid enough to fall for this crap.
