A school of rainbow trout sit just under the surface in a large pool, chasing midge pupa as they ascend through the water column towards the surface. A good technique to try in this case would be to tie on a Griffith's Gnat, then tie on a small Zebra Midge 18" off the bend of the hook. Watch for the Griffith's Gnat to disappear when trout take the Zebra Midge subsurface.
