An exploration of the world of the small, with macro photography in Japanese temple gardens, along with new age music.

I am forever surprised at the heavenly beauty I find in this realm, of things that aren't usually important to us, of places we forget even exist. Let us marvel at the details in the very world we live in, yet a world we rarely see.

  • As filmmaker, I know exactly what your saying. I noticed in this piece that you used Tomita. I love his music. My first trip to Japan was in 1982 and I loved listening to his music while there. I also enjoy Kitaro.

  • Oh- good taste! I discovered Tomita through my mother's friend/student, a Japanese architect/photographer. It's one of the things that attracted me here- a new take on Western-derived culture. As for Kitaro, I like his stuff too, but don't know it quite as well.

  • P.S. I like you use of the "Ken Burns" effect, and you choice of music for all you videos have been right on the money; always evocative to the images being shown.

  • Thanks, these effects are from Microsoft's 'Photostory'. To be honest, even though there are more fades and stuff out there, I like to keep them simple. I am amazed how film-like this panning and zooming can be. As for soundtracks, I'm glad you like my choices, as it is one of the things that takes the most time. Choosing something interesting without it being too distractive is always hard for me!

  • What type of camera and lens are you using? Digital?

  • Yes, all digital now (not so for the earlier work, which is scanned film). I use a Nikon D70 with various lenses- the most used lens in this piece is my Tamron SP AF DI 90mm f/2.8 Macro, an amazing lens that actually too expensive, but renders that gorgeous 'out of focus softness' (bokeh). With this kind of lens, I can make photos that are really more like paintings, straight out of the camera.

  • honest and true

  • macro photography should be done when a subject is small and be photographed in a close distance like 3 inches... now that is the essence of macro photography....

the video didnt really showcase the full potential of his/her camera and his/her skill in the art of photography.

may i suggest that you take pictures of insects or flowers that allures the mind to be filled with wonder and astonishment.

    the music was great though.

  • Excellent Macro!....and loved the enchanting music. A beautiful Macro video can be ruined by choosing the wrong music as I'm sure that this photographer is aware of..

    Great work!...

  • Macro photography is my favorite techniques. And I just love Tomita. The combination is irresistable. Thanks for submitting.

  • A beautiful combination of images and music. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you. I do mostly industrial photography: auto parts, etc. When I get a chance I try my hand at nature, but with mixed results.
