Visiting the creation museum over Memorial Day weekend May 2011. Since the Rapture didn't happen on May 21st, 2011 as predicted by many a christian, I figured it was time to get a better idea of the cosmos by visiting the 'Creation Museum'.
@2009travelvideo I tell people that Jesus would have looked like Yassir Arafat, if he in fact existed at all. Then they get all pissed off and call me a Satanist. Then I tell them Satan gave up deviltry to play pro hockey for Moscow Dynamo [true] and that Hell is in Michigan [also true]. Then I usually get blocked.
An excellent website the illustrates the many varied interpretations of biblical messages. moves like a cedar, strong as a cedar, bends his tail like a cedar, etc.... ALL have very different meanings. This strengthens my argument concerning the nonsensical adherence (or assumption) that this passage has anything to do with dinosaurs. Thank you for referencing this cite.
Let's take a good look as "barnes Notes On The Bible" as you have suggested:
"The obvious meaning here is, that this animal... "bending" or "curving" its tail, and that there was some resemblance in this to the motion of the cedar-tree when moved by the wind."
As an analogy, a cedar tree is a poor example of anything that bends or curves easily. Again, the behemoth could be anything. Thanks for sharing.
@tripletrules "Why bother even replying if you're not going to say anything of value?"
I don't understand your question. The analogy/metaphor the bible uses to describe the behemoth's tail is nonsensical to begin with. Let's look again: "He moveth his tail like a cedar"... If cedar is describing a cedar tree; do cedar trees move WITHOUT aid from an external force like wind or natural growth?
@2009travelvideo That's what I mean by how they pick and choose what to believe. They believe the creation story literally however they don't believe in killing someone who works on the Sabbath which the Bible CLEARLY tells us to do.
@joecane6340 "They want to take the Bible literally."
I doubt in any creationists that take the bible literally. If there were, you would have to encounter a christian who believes in witches, wizards and giants while keeping slaves and routinely stoning people to death. Since I've never heard of any single individual (at least in the U.S.) who believes and does ALL these things simultaneously, I have to suspect there are few if anyone at all that takes the bible literally.
@2009travelvideo Just as truth is truth, evolution is evolution. You've got that right about them picking and choosing what to believe. They believe only if it supports their beliefs irregardless if it's true or not. The fact that science has been able to observe evolution is undeniable proof. It does not mean that God is not the creator. They want to take the Bible literally. Something else they pick through and believe only what is convenient for them.
