wow... people, listen to the smiths version. dont perverse the meaning of this song. the lyrics were written from a very depressed genius
-
it was written by the smiths, long before the film came out. it was about suicide @ilovelikethis

@memoimy1 You could say that this song is about suicide but it really depends on how you think about it. To you it may be but to me and many other people it is about escaping from a world you no longer have a place in.

@ilovelikethis I think it is a Suicide song, but this song relates to me... I do want to go, I don't want to wake up on my own... I just want to be alone in a Cell... and cry... I would rather be some where else then this Trap-Of-A-Life... v.v Who agree's with me? I feel depressed all the time, and this song makes sense to me. It makes me feel like I'm not alone... ^_^ This is for all the DEPRESSED PEOPLE OUT THERE :333

@ilovelikethis The problem is, this song is a cover originally done by The Smiths. So unfortunately the meaning doesn't really relate to the movie at all. The song is about suicide, aha.

@ilovelikethis Still made me cry my eyes out though.. :P

the part that always gets me is where she sings dont try and wake me up in the morning im already gone
my brother died in his sleep and this song is really helping me get through the pain but that verse always make me cries :'(

This song isn't about suicide at all, its about going to a new world. Running away from everything she fears, and everything she doesn't. It's about getting away from the real world into one she creates.. It's such a beautiful song, i can relate to it..

this song is beautiful....
I love this song! I never realized the meaning before but it's clear now. I don't think this song is about suicide. I think that it's about escaping from a world she no longer wants to be in, and for those of you who have seen the movie.... the whole movie is about how the girls escape reality through dance! Therefore, Babydoll sacraficeing herself for Sweet Peas freedom by having to get a lobotamy is a means of escape from her life. She wants to be in a better place!
