Vera Drake Part 7

Vera Drake is a selfless woman who is completely devoted to, and loved by, her working class family. She spends her days doting on them and caring for her sick neighbor and elderly mother. However, she also secretly visits women and helps them induce miscarriages for unwanted pregnancies. While the practice itself was illegal in 1950s England, Vera sees herself as simply helping women in need, and always does so with a smile and kind words of encouragement. When the authorities finally find her out, Vera's world and family life rapidly unravel.

"Significant psychiatric sequelae after abortion are rare, as documented in numerous methodologically sound prospective studies in the United States and in European countries... what might your resource be? personal experience of all variables? general hear-say? assumption that natural child birth is primeval, incarcerating, and just another model of man-overpowering-woman? In reference to, yes, legal abortions:

"Complications such as these are common, as are bleeding, hemorrhage, laceration of the cervix, menstrual disturbance, inflammation of the reproductive organs, bladder or bowel perforation, and serious infection."

Not even considering mental repercussions.

I think that people should keep in mind, however, that abortion is not necessarily "safe" even when it is legal. For instance, the film indicates that the majority of terminations performed by "Vera" did not develop complications, just as most women don't get physically ill from abortions, but they still do now that abortion is legal.
