WONG:
Japanese whaling fleets are in Antarctic waters for their annual whale hunt. And so are the anti-whaling activists. The two groups have released fresh video of their latest clashes.

STORY:
This is a video filmed by Japanese whalers on Friday, February 6th. It shows their clash with the anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd. It appears that the activists ram the stern of the Japanese whaling ship Yushin Maru.

[Japanese Whaler]:
"The Sea Shepherd is trying to obstruct us whaling and they are getting closer. They are throwing something now. Its something in a white bottle. They are throwing something again. Several of them are throwing something from the bridge. It was a white bottle."

The activists are accusing the whalers of using water cannons and acoustic weapons against them. They say that golf balls and chunks of metal were also thrown at the Steve Irwin.

Video released from the U.S.- based Sea Shepherd Conservation Society shows the ships ready to collide.

Activists say they were attempting to block the transfer of a dead whale up the slipway of the factory ship.

But Tokyo has sharply rebuked Friday's collision saying it was an act of violence.
But the environmentalist group is vowing to continue their fight to stop the whaling.

Japan's whaling fleet is in Antarctic waters for an annual hunt aimed at catching about 900 whales.

Although Japan officially stopped whaling under a 1986 global moratorium, it continues to take hundreds of whales under a loophole allowing whaling for research purposes.

But much of this meat ends up on supermarket shelves and dinner tables.

  • Whales are proven to already be endangered. They're struggling to survive. Cutting their numbers is not helping. There are other sources of food for Japs to go after. If the whale, or any other major animal, goes extinct it'll hurt the entire world's foodchain. So WE will be one step closer to extinction. Besides, whales are the second most intelligent animal in the history of the world. They're special and important
