Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the director of the Tehachapi (California) High School Treble Ensemble felt compelled to take the girls to New York City and sing On Holy Ground by Geron Davis at Ground Zero at the site of the Twin Towers. The community pitched in to help raise funds to send them. They left on May 8, 2002 and were able to sing at Ground Zero (in the rain) as well as other songs in other places and tour the city, returning late on May 13th.
On May 18, 2002, they performed "On Holy Ground" and three additional songs for a "Music in the Parks" competition. They won first place in their division and first place over all. They performed in the Western High School gymnasium, a short distance from Disneyland, before two judges and a hand full of parents. Linda Pettitt directed the choir. Kim Grassman sang the solo for this song. Kim, now going by the name Kimberly Jean, has gone on to a career singing country music.
