Here is a video of the current way I have microphones oriented around my kit.

Bass Drum - Shure PG 52
Snare Drum - Shure SM 57
Overheads - Samson C 02 (Pair)

I record the 4 mics into my Zoom HD16, then import them into Garageband through USB. In Garageband, I EQ everything a little bit, compress the snare and bass drum, as well as put a slight gate on them.

Thanks

  • Anyone who likes Primus is a little farther up the evolutionary chain in a disturbing awesome way

  • sounds good man I'm surprised at those samson overheads! i thought they would sound like shit! ha not too bad after all! I'd say get a better kick mic and your game :)

  • prrrrriiiiiimmmmmuuuuusssss

  • If you want a cleaner Ride sound, try placing an over head Centered over top of the Ride, or over top of your crash.

  • I think the toms needs more volume?

  • @JoesRedGuitar Hey how do you like the Sampson CO2's are they as noise free as the sm57. Im building a recording studio for my band thats all.

  • The sound quality is really good, and that's a respectable mix. I do notice that your bass drum is almost non existent in the mix though. A trick that I've used to really give the bass drum a good presence in the mix, is to create a duplicate track of it in your garage band program (if that's possible, I use cubase and it's super easy), then soft pan it to about 3 oclock on the right and 9 oclock on the left. Put it in a group if you can, and put your eq and compression on the group channel.

  • I like how the snare is tuned. It sounds great.

  • you suck, wanker!!!
