2011 Spring Football: Kansas State Wildcats

Kansas State faces a season of change and how the Wildcats handle those changes will determine if they can reach a bowl game for the second consecutive season. The Wildcats enter 2011 without running back Daniel Thomas, who rushed for over 2,800 yards in two seasons. Quarterback Carson Coffman, who led Kansas State to seven victories and the Pinstripe Bowl, graduated. The replacement for Coffman could be Collin Klein, who started the victory over Texas but attempted just 18 passes last season, came out spring practice as the favorite to become Kansas State's QB. Justin Tuggle, a junior-college transfer, is a dual threat quarterback who also is in the mix to start. Bryce Brown, a transfer from Tennessee, is a Kansas native who has the size, speed and talent to take over for Thomas as the team's top running back. Brown's brother Arthur is expected make an impact on the defensive side. A transfer from Miami, Arthur Brown is a linebacker dominated practices last year on the scout team. The defense returns seven starters, including three in the secondary. The defense needs considerable help. The Wildcats struggled to stop the run and allowed at least 36 points in six games last season. Senior defensive end Brandon Harold needs to boost a pass rush that had just 20 sacks last season. The defense was weak against the run and allowed opponents to score at least 36 points in six games last season, including each of the last four.
