The 2013 Jamboree at The Summit Bechtel Reserve will have whitewater rafting, skateboarding and mountain biking. But here's what it won't have: cars, buses or vans to cart participants around. So while the Boy Scouts of America are getting ready for 2013, there are some things Scouts and staff need to do to prepare for the Jamboree as well.

The 2013 Jamboree will be unlike any other Jamboree before. There will be exciting new adventures featured at The Summit in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. And because the 2013 Jamboree will be held in such awesome terrain, participants need to be sure they can handle it by being physically fit. It's all in preparation to create the best possible experience at The Summit.

In this video, Tico Perez, the National Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America, explains how the Scouts and other participants at the 2013 Jamboree will meet different physical challenges that have not been at previous Jamborees, such as the three to four mile hike to The Summit's highest point, The Garden Ground.

Because more stamina is needed for the activities and everyday happenings at the Summit, some fitness standards have been put into place. To prevent any serious health-related events from happening, the national jamboree cannot accept any for participation applicant whose Body Mass Index (BMI) is 40.0 or higher. For participation applicants with a BMI between 32.0 and 40.0 may be considered after their doctor is consulted. These standards have been put into place for everyone's safety and to ensure all participants get the most out of the Summit.

So between now and 2013, those wanting to participate should get ready and get in shape; the 2013 Jamboree is not something you want to miss. Be prepared for adventure!
