  • I really respect this guy - a tremendous fighter who pretty much took on all the best heavyweights of his era. He cam to the UK and took on one of our best heavies (Jack Bodell) and pretty nearly decapitated the guy. He'll never be forgotten - ever.

  • Incredibly smart guy as far as I've heard that's what's been said is he could do the New York Times crossword puzzle like he knew the answers. He had the intelligence to do anything with his life it's just that he chose boxing.

I'll always believe the Norton fight caused 90% of his brain damage.

    Love you Jerry, R.I.P.

  • The great Jerry Quarry. It was unfortunate that Gerry Quarry fought in an era with some of the greatest heavyweights Champions of all time and with only one or two World heavyweight Championship belts. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest fighters who ever graced the ring.

  • Jerry Quarry was tough as Hell with an enormous heart! For more on Quarry, read "Hard Luck," by Steve Springer and Blake Chavez. A great book.

  • Definately a top top fighter if he were active today he would easily be world champ. Unfortunately for him he was amongst so many good Heavies, it was definitely the golden era of Heavyweight Boxing. And Mike Quarry was not bad either!

  • One of the big reasons I got into boxing when I was young. He was so fun to watch. Technically sound, tough as nails, humble, and always a gentlemen.

  • @ripperduck Agreed...Quarry had zero fear, he would have fought a grizzly bear if you put one in the other corner. Honestly, Joe Frazier was a warrior, I have a lot of respect for him, but Jerry should have beaten him. Quarry had quicker hands, took a better shot, had more power and better defense. I think the difference was the cardio. 1st three rounds against Frazier, Jerry looked as good as any heavyweight I've ever seen. Great fighter in an era of great fighters.

  • Almost forgot...knockout power in each hand. Just ask Ernie Shavers, Mac Foster, Thad Spencer, Joe Alexander etc....

  • Jerry was your dad? I had the pleasure of meeting him in 1985. Worked on a project with him. He was a good guy. Didn't have the typical "I'm a star, I'm better than you" attitude many celebs have. He was a good guy. As far as boxing goes...someone here said he had "the heart of a lion", they're right on with that assessment. Quick hands, great chin and as tough as they come. Consistently wiped out bigger fighters. He had tremendous skill and courage.

  • @MegaEvilempire Jerry fought Ali when Ali was about 225 when he was maybe 200. Ask any boxer how much that kind of weight differential affects the punches and ability to withstand them. Also getting someone leaning one ya when he's that much bigger is almost an unfair advantage. Jerry had a huge heart, and that didn't seem to matter to him. Put him in the ring and he'll give all he has. Much respect for the Irish kid from Bellflower...
