  • I don't get the smoke thing, is it just for display or something?

  • It's to show the wind vortex(i think that's what they call it)coming off the wing tips as the plane flys at different speeds. The smoke starts to make shapes as the plane flys by.

  • Sweet!!! How recent was the Argonaut shot?

  • At last years Chino's airshow (May 2007). This vid. is of past chino airshow's i've been to dating back as far as 2002.These were taken close to the end of the runway in the parking lot aera. Thanks for watching.

  • @SALTYWOOFHOUND meh...well everyone has an opinion. They are both beautiful airplanes, I just happen to like the Sea Fury a lil bit more. The Spitfire is like the Mustang over here, they are everywhere...at least there are like 100 variations of the Spit to mix things up a bit. :-)

  • Truly brilliant on paper.

But they don't have the same presence as a Griffen powered Spit, snarling around the airfield, just coasting...

  • @huxypoo Good call Dude, the Centaurus is the sexiest sounding radial ever made but if your not ready to spend a fortune putting oil in the thing the 3350 is only way to fly.

  • Thanks for the info! I've got to admit that my assumption was wrong after doing some further research on this particular bird. It's origin is British but the powerplant in this one are pure US muscles ;-)

But thanks anyway for the correction!

  • This one is "Argonaut", a Sea Fury owned by Saunders Aircraft and re-engined with a 100% American Wright R-3350 18-cylinder radial. A little more power, a little less weight, and a lot more reliable. Still, I love the sound of the Centaurus better, and I like the idea of keeping the aircraft as is, Sea Fury matched with Centaurus. I understand the reason for the engine swap, though.

  • The US Race versions are modified for racing, its not the warbird in its original configuration.

As for the transatlantic bickering, the P51 was actually enhanced when the rolls royce engine was on board so its fair to say that both countries have produced some mean feats of airworthy frames is it not.

  • same engines as the Corsair(another fav of mine) but the top speed with Bristol Centaurus XVIIC engines was 460 mph

and the corsair was 425 mph with the Pratt & Whitney R-2800-8W both great aircraft anyway.

  • Wrong engines or not, they want to win races, so they choose the Wasp.

  • thats because they had the wrong engines

  • Yes, 100% Brit. One of the greatest fighters ever built. Simply brilliant just because of the way it sounds. Have to say, the Corsair is almost as good, along with the Bearcat, but then any Grumman is a legend!
