  • premature ejaculation, i'm sorry, i meant premature retraction !

  • after 500 hours in my Mooney and lots of operation from grass I know: it was not to bumpy!

I guess: the pilot or passenger simply touched the gear switch...

  • @RobertGary1 Ah right. I stand corrected. Thanks for telling me.

  • @sheldonholy Its a manual gear, not electric. Likely a mechanical lock failure.

  • I think it's an early Mooney, with MANUAL (mechanical) gear. That is, a lever moves the gear system. No motors or electrical assistance (thus no squat switch).

It looked like it was bounching too much, and the nose gear got banged one too many times, and it popped the gear lever out of the securing socket.

It looks like the pilot wasn't holding enough back elevator, or it didn't have enough nose-up trim. The nose should have been up by that speed.

  • Its an M20C, with a fully manual, lever operated landing gear system.

  • @Hogidibi Yeah. This is an ancient M20J by the looks of things...

Every which way, something went wrong :)

  • @sheldonholy Well that's the silly part. I think the comment says that the bumpy field caused it to go up. Haven't flown a Mooney before so I'm not sure what their gear levers are like.

  • @Hogidibi I suppose :)

Either way, what made him think to put the undercarridge up so early??

  • @sheldonholy It was bouncing a fair amount during take-off, squat switches could've been cut off by the bouncing.
