ive climbed the grand twice. the low point of the climb is seeing the exum hut in the middle of a pristine mountain environment. it needs to go. its outrageous that this is allowed in a national park.

I did the climb with Exum this past summer. I was not able to take many pictures or videos while actually climbing. It was before the sun came up and we never stopped moving. This is a great representation of how Exum gets you to the summit and the physical tole it takes on your body.

I am climbing with Exum this summer. I am a mother of three small children and am not able to climb to prepare, but am working out in a gym. Any suggestions on how fit/strong I need to be? What route did you take?

@A00286710 I'd be as aerobically fit as you can be. Stairmaster for an hour a day would not be beyond the pale. I took Diamox to fight altitude sickness. One side effect is that you breathe VERY hard. I climbed with a physician who had studied all of this and recommended gingko instead. He was 66 and did very little aerobic training. He kicked my butt. Me wheezing away on Diamox was miserable. He, on the other hand, had a nice hike. Aerobic conditioning is your friend. We took Owen Spalding.

Hi there David, The exposure was real, but being roped in provided a lot of confidence. I think it depends on how experienced you are? My fear of heights extends to man-made objects only. Climbing rocks/mountains have never bothered me. It's a pretty grueling climb though. Make sure you are aerobically fit, or younger than 20 :)
