Our smaller 12 qt Igloo Ice Cube Cooler DIY home-made fog chiller. It's a modification based on the VORTEX FUSION (google it. it's cool. and it's much easier to buy one). The DIY chillers were produced using modification ideas we threw about and shared on HAUNTFORUM.COM (check 'em out. they're good people) and ice chest cooler ideas that pre-date this video. Using the compact cube shape was my idea. It was interesting to share the modification ideas within a community of Yard Haunters. We don't sell these home-made versions. Neither should you. We give credit where credit is due. So should you. Refer to the dates on videos. The most original hauntforum community modification being the trash bag on the outlet to create back pressure to slow down and spread the fog. The second original idea is the pseudo venturi inlet pipe to create suction.

These test show two modified set-ups using a 90 degree sweep on the outlet inside the bottom of the chiller. No ice tray was use. 8 lbs of ice was used compared to 5 lbs in a standard set-up. The fog expansion area was only 3" above the ice. A second modification removed the 90 degree vertical pipe.

First set-up at the beginning:

Test 1 at 0:15 - 1/2 Air Convection Inlet Gap & Straight Pipe Outlet (Poor results)

Test 2 at 1:00 - Pseudo venturi inlet & Straight Pipe Outlet (Poor results)

Test 3 at 1:45 - Pseudo venturi inlet & Trash Bag on Outlet
Second set-up at 2:20 (Poor results)

Test 1 at 2:50 - 1 Air Convection Inlet Gap & Straight Pipe Outlet (Poor results)

Test 2 at 3:55 - Pseudo venturi inlet & Straight Pipe Outlet (Poor results)

Additional Bonus Test to a Prop at 4:20 - Psuedo Venturi Inlet & 3 dia Duct to a Cauldron (OK results)

These tests were done with a small chiller and low wattage fogger but could be performed for experimentation with larger chillers and higher wattage foggers.

Temperature was 60 degrees and clear with no wind. Covered porch set-up was so the fog testing would not bother the neighbors.

OVERALL CONCLUSIONS ON THE 12QT MODIFICATIONS: The low fog effect works out of the chiller, but is weaker & thinner than a standard chiller set-up which uses an ice tray & a lower fog expansion area. The modified set-ups are interesting, but not recommended. Video Oct 13, 2007.
