Caged tomatoes are widely grown but you can grow strong healthy insanely productive plants with no cages. Here's how it's done.

  • how much spacing do you recommend between 3 tomato plants? im glad you figured out this 'cut the suckers off myth' because i started to wonder if that shit made any sense myself

  • @DemonicSymphonic I plant mine approximately 4 feet apart to allow for sprawl. I wouldn't suggest any closer unless you enjoy seeing a fight to the death between two angry tomato plants. :)

  • so if those supporting legs that touch the ground were covered with dirt, would they start putting down roots? Would that be a good thing to do in this case? If there were any suckers low to the ground, would they put out roots, too?

  • @CraftFamilyMO The low-growing suckers that touch the ground will set down roots if you pile soil on them and water it. The leaf stem legs probably won't. I like the way you ask questions. That's the best kind of gardener. :)

  • Look for a video response later today ( Friday afternoon ) i need your advice really bad, i have a dozen better boys... i will take video tomorrow.

  • @yellowgroove Hail storm? Sounds like a fun yet damaging event. I'm a huge fan of strong storms but my garden doesn't think the same way. Video response will be helpful. My email will notify me. I should be able to answer within an hour or two.

  • P.s. how tall do you grow the tomato?

  • @Praxxus55712 thanks, you already commented on my response video to this but i have a lot of big storm videos on my channel, just have to go through some of the almost 600 vids to find them.. actually, i have some made in the past month ( June )

  • Mine were destroyed by a bad hail storm and the main stems got severed..and the plants all got knocked down, i left them go and they started growing back laterally like you said... hope i can get something from them.
