This tutorial will demonstrate how to safely resize partitions using the GParted utility that is found on most Ubuntu based Linux Live CD's. I this episode I am using the PingEEE Live Disk which is a netbook remix of PinguyOS.

Further instructions and frequently asked questions about GParted can be found here:

  • i would like to install windows on my ubuntu pc, but i don't want to touch my ubuntu part, can you show a video on how to create partition for windows format (create an NTFS partition on ubuntu using Gparted or disk utility)

  • @moszsimus If you install Windows after having Ubuntu installed, Win setup will overwrite your MBR so you will have to use a live CD and re-install grub... My request queue is presently full so I will PM you instructions on fixing this problem. I will eventually get to doing a video on this topic.

  • Now do it with terminal!

  • @LinuxSpatry Okay thank you!!!

I found out that I have to deleat the partition then make a new one so all I have to do is backup my files.

  • @Armydude771 that would be an accurate layout... I take it that it is not allowing you to resize either partition? If you google search for gparted you may be able to find some documentation that may help you in that area...

  • @LinuxSpatry Sorry for multiple comments.

My linux partition is on the right side and my win does is on the left

    Does that matter?

  • @Armydude771 Hmmm could it be that there is another logical drive that needs to be removed before you are resizing your ubuntu partition? That is my best guess without actually seeing your drive layout...

  • @LinuxSpatry I got it to resize using live CD but...

When I try to resize my linux it opens the resize menu but I can't drag it anymore and It looks like it's inside another partition

  • @LinuxSpatry Ubuntu

  • @Armydude771 What operating system are you using?
