From John Oates: MANEATER is a New York song. Although it's written from the male's point of view about a female, it's not about a particular girl. New York City is full of people who are biting and scratching and clawing their way to the top. The song is about people who use people.

From Daryl Hall: John had a prototype of MANEATER. It was like a reggae song I said, "Well, the chorus is interesting but I think we should change the groove." And I changed it to that Motown kind of groove. I played it for Sara and sang it for her. "Oh here she comes, watch out for she'll chew you up, oh here she comes, she's a maneater and a..."I forget what the last line was. She said "Drop that shit in the end and go 'She's a maneater' and stop! And I said, "No, you're crazy."

this song has so much meaning in my life, my dad used to sing this about my mom when I was a little girl...that is until they got divorced, haha.
