This is Sonya 2 1/2 years old with type 3 Osteogenesis Imperfecta trying out her loaner wheelchair. This is the Action Comet chair. It is a bit too heavy for her but she is at least learning how to get her move on!!! She has mastered forward and backward, but is still trying to grasp the concept of taking turns and gets a bit frustrated. We are working on getting her a Tilite wheelchair, a chair that is about 15 lbs lighter!

  • @karijeanurrutia Not sure if you got my last message, but I wanted to let you know that if you wanted to join the OI Parents group on yahoo there are 2 other women on there who married men with severe OI who also were short in stature. Also we are on Facebook as well. Message me if you would like more info! It's really a wonderful group!

  • @quztavo22 We did get a custom chair made for her. This chair was on loan from the hospital because she could not walk at the time and needed something to get around in until her custom chair came in. Now she is wheeling around in her custom! :)

  • Hi Kari! I'm sorry to hear that your son is being bullied at school over his OI. How upsetting! Do you belong to the OI Parents support group on yahoo? They have been very helpful for us. Sonya also has rods in her legs. We are getting her arms rodded as well. This coming week will be her 10th surgery. Sonya is a moderate type 3 with over 30 long bone fractures and who knows how many micro fractures. Sonya will be 3 years old in January! Nice to "meet" you!

  • Why don´t you buy her a littler wheelchair? When I was young I had one!

  • Hey my Son Skyy has OI type 3 his dad has it to my son skyy is 8 years old and his dad is 34 years old. My husband is 3 foot 8 and my son is 36 inches. Sky has rods in both legs and has had muliple fractors in his rib, arms and legs. We live texas and when the weather changes my sons bones hurt. My son has been bulled at school and people have told him why he wears his bones on the outside. What stupid people, and I forgot I am 5'4 so people think it is odd why I went with my husband. kari

  • @BeingRandomIsMyThing i have oi & id like to read it:) it sounds like handle with care by jodi picoult.

hi my name is Fiona McCormack, I'm 14 and I'm writing a novel. The main character has osteogenisis type 3, and though I've done more research than I'd ever do for school, I still can't piece it together. I know it's a little weird but would you mind becoming my friend and answering some questions. If you don't, I understand and I apologise greatly for asking, but if you do then yes! Thank you 10000 times thank you! I'll go add you as a friend now!
