Rhythms of the World is the world music festival based in Hitchin Hertfordshire UK. Using 15 acres of prime parkland at the Hitchin Priory. Over the course of the weekend 23,000 people danced to, sang to and generally had a great time to music from all over the World!! A fantastic, family safe festival, a stone’s throw from the town centre…
Don’t miss this year’s festival on the 4th & 5th July 2009.

It was better when it was around the town

@montg2perfection Yes, you have to pay because stages, police etc don't come for free and people / business weren't contributing enough. So, who's going to cover the cost of it? The people who enjoy it? Fine by me!
This is a charity run by volunteers and friends of mine who've given up their time and effort to raise money etc to subsidise the cost of the tickets should be appreciated. I defy you to find a better event to go to for the cost of £8 or even £16 if you DO have to pay twice!

I would also like to say that the festival has become more and more for people from out of town, those of us that actually reside in Hitchin have been fairly dissapointed. It was lovely for the town to turn into a big party one weekend of the year, and it was a very special event. Now its crammed into a small space and there is less of a carnival atmosphere, and you have to pay.

@CaptainPlum The point is its ruined now that its all enclosed. I completely disagree with the choice that was made to move the festival to the priory. Its a shame because the kids loved being able to go to the festival in town, go home have some lunch and a rest and then walk back into town again in the evening to enjoy some more music and have a street party. We cannot do this now unless we are willing to pay twice as there is no re-admittance.

Gets my blood boiling every time i think about how good it used to be before they moved it into the priory and started charging for it. Fuck you, Rhythms, you piece of shit.

@eleuthromania in reply to your comment two weeks ago on ROTW video 'Now just another little festival', you make it sound like some capitalists have stolen the festival from the town. Why don't you ask the shops which now have 'no trade' and the pubs etc which have lost out how much they contributed to the £16k police bill. That's right, all shops, pubs, bars etc were happy to rake it in but NOT ONE contributed to the charity. Tickets are £8 now, which is all ploughed back into the event.

A sham??....but it was seriously out of control they were gonna have to do something about it eventually. They warned people every year but things kept getting worse every year so it's "the publics" fault more than anything. It's still a large festival though ( app up to 26000 visit still!), just within the priory which is a nice area to start with. Think people should stop moaning really cos it could have just been cancelled all together! Least its better policed now.

Used to be free and a lot better. Now just another little festival. Stolen from the town!! No trade for the shops, no new experiences in familiar places. Anyone remember the soundsystem outside St. Mary's, the singing/tabla/trumpet inside, Punjabi MC in the car park? D n' B in the dell? Apparently there were not enough people to pick up the litter.... what a sham.
