@dizeedee I dont like 4x4 drivers who damage the lanes either, but a good driver will hardly cause any damage. Did you realise the maintenance for these greenlanes (unsurfaced roads) is actually paid for in vehicle tax. Do walkers or horse riders pay tax to use these roads??

As a mountain biker and hiker, I've seen my fair share of trails in the Peak District and I have to agree with TheHound8 and finalreminder that the majority of the damage is done by walkers simply because the park is far more accessible to those on foot. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the individual to try and minimise their impact on the land - and yes this does mean taking litter home. Unfortunately it only takes a couple of idiots to give everyone else an undeserved reputation!

I can't help but wonder what it is in this clip that leads you to believe that the lane was damaged by the activities shown?
Yes there were a few scrapes from tow hitches on the step but none caused lasting damage and in the space of a week will have vanished from view. Generally that type of contact is undesirable as it can damage the vehicle. The surface of this lane is hard packed (are you familiar with this lane?) and not prone to damage. We respect the countryside as much as others.
You dont think 100,000 boots per year over the greenlanes has a more detrimental effect than say 100 4x4's per year?
I've walked lanes that are the sole preserve of walkers and the erosion can be pretty horrific in places.
Check the Signet Pass in Wales. When I was a kid it was all green and lush. Since it became popular with ramblers it's been worn down to rock and soil in most places.
4% of greenlanes are accessible to vehicles. The vast majority of damage is caused by the mass of walkers.

I've got too agree as an ex park ranger I have seen and fixed more lanes damaged through walkers than vehicles and it is simple down too the vast amount of walkers on certain lanes that do the damage not to mention the inconsidirate lazy people that leave their rubbish all over the place rather than taking it with them to the first bin they come across.
there is a few inconsiderate and reckless drivers that spoil it for us all deliberatlly driving in away that causes damage to the tracks etc
