This demonstrates the delicate movements you must develop for proper flying. You must be able to make extremely small movements when hovering, or you will over-control and probably crash.

  • I think it would be great if you can show the stick movement and the model on the screen looks like. So we can see, when you move the stick, how the model react

  • I am working on a way to do that with my real helicopter, and I have posted some simulator videos with the stick movement shown... but the point of this video was simply to show how small the movements need to be.

  • Will the MCX need small movements like this? The reason i ask is i plan to move onto collective pitch helis after so i am using the MCX more as a way to get used to the basic controls. Do you think the MCX is a good plan and heli for this or is it so easy that it would not really help me at all? Cheers Elroy.

  • No, the mCX needs full stick throws to get moving and will hover all by itself. This video is primarily directed at new aircraft flyers. We are always telling them that they are "overcontrolling" but it is very hard to understand what that means. I told it to a guy one day and he reduced his movements from half to a quarter stick travel, which is not enough.

  • Well in Real Heli's you do need to adjust collective and yaw. Realflight doesn't fully simmulate wind, thermals and variations of motor powerbands

  • Oh and yes, I'm hovering in ground effect there with constant collective, because I'm holding the camera with my other hand :)

  • thanks for showing this video and for helping us that are still on coaxial's

  • Yes this is true. Realflight will simulate wind, thermals, and turbulence fairly well, but it is turned off by default. The purpose of this video was only to show how *small* the movements are. People tell noobs "you're over-controlling!" but unless they see it, I don't they realize how small of movements we're talking about.
