Just testing out my new clarinet, and what better choice of cover than this beautiful song by the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus? Good range of pitches and dynamics, and relatively straightforward harmonies means it'll sound great, and can be done by ear. Awesome :D

You might not be able to hear it, but this horn sounds quite a bit better than the E11. There's a much more focused, centered and slightly darker tone, and the tuning in the upper register is much more consistent (unfortunately clarion C, D and E seem to get more out of tune each time I play). The upper middle register and altissimo are still a bit too bright and spread for my liking, but I'm sure that's more of my problem. At the very least, softer dynamics at those ranges come out much easier, as heard in the ending.

Enjoy!

I own only my playing.

  • wow that was intense. lol. Why size reed do you use?

  • @shawil12 Thanks =) I have a bunch of Vandoren 3's (the blue box) and a few 3.5's. I switched over to 3.5 V12's recently, which sound great. It depends a lot on which mouthpiece I'm using too

  • I've always wanted to learn how to play this song on my clarinet. Beautiful sound. -33 how can you make those notes high without squeaking? xD I can't do it

  • @ScreamForSkylyn Haha let's see...firm up your embouchure without biting, support your air from the diaphragm, and voice the note--as in you can't just put air through the instrument, you gotta play around with tongue and throat position until you can produce a resonant tone. The middle of the tongue should be raised to focus the airstream. Generally you want to shape your mouth/tongue as you would when saying "peu" in french, and make adjustments from there. Hope that helps :P

  • If only my band teacher would allow me to play this song... I play clarinet too X3!

    :D

  • @2master23 lol that would be fun, but I don't think a band arrangement of this song would sound good though... :P
