In the early days of electric light they discovered that the electric carbon arc lamp had strange behavior in the Parallel circuit. We demonstrate the phenomena using fluorescent lamps which also use the arc. Demonstrated in Series, Parallel without ballast, Parallel with Ballasts. Elihu Thomson, William Houston, Charles Brush were just a few early pioneers who discovered this problem when they attached their arc lights to their DC dynamos.
